What Is Prime LE SIP?

Prime LE SIP is a Structurally Insulated Panel, comprising of a sandwich panel of Oriented Strand Board and Expanded Polystyrene Foam. The Prime LE SIP is a large element lightweight panel that comes in 8 x 24 ft in size.

Why Are SIPs So Quick To Build With?

The elements are large enough to be placed directly onto the site, these are then joined to each other to create a structure which enables the frame to be erected in a couple of days. The frame also comprises the roof panel system which in in the same design as the Prime LE product. The roof system placed and joined onto the frame as soon as the frame is ready. This creates a far shorter time frame compared with conventional systems.

What Are The Thermal Properties Of Prime

LE SIP?

When evaluating the insulating performance of a wall system, several factors should be considered. Most common among these is R-value and U-Value. The R-value is a measurement of the ability of different materials to resist conductive heat transfer (movement of heat through solid material). The higher the R-value of an insulating material, the better it is able to resist heat loss or gain. The U-value is equally important and ensures that any heat generated through the property is not lost through the walls. Our SIP panels have R-values that range from R20 through to R38, compared to R-11 which is common in stud built walls. The U-value is very low at 0.11 which compared with traditional system of block with cavity insulation of 0.33. The low U-value of Prime LE SIP is much lower and therefore ensures a more energy efficient property than the traditional system.

If I Build With SIPs Is There A Risk Of Mold

& Condensation?

This has been a problem with SIP structures in the past is is mainly due to bad practice and product. The correct system and build method should not allow moisture to enter the building, simply down to the fact that the cavity is filled with insulation and the envelope is fully sealed.

How Long Does It Take For My SIP Panels

To Be Delivered To Site?

The time frame would start from the acceptance of the projects and plans. Once this has been done the product will be produced and delivered to site within 4 weeks.

Are SIPs Structurally Safe?

The product is 100% safe and structurally sound, The product has stability, compression tests carried out and is able to withstand comfortably a vertical compression load of strength of 90kNm, this strength is well in excess of a traditional two storey house.

Are There Any Restrictions When

Building With SIPs (i.e. building height)

On its own the product can only be used to build up to 3 floors.  However, when combined with other strengthening structures there are minimal build restrictions. This is the case when utilising the product with commercial building or additional strengthening systems such as steel or concrete frames. .
What Type Of Insulation Do You Use? Our standard panels have a core of Modified Expanded Polystyrene (EPS). EPS provides higher R-values than other types of foam and does not contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which are believed to damage the Earth's ozone layer. The R-value of our panels is extremely stable. In field testing over a number of decades EPS has been shown to retain virtually all of its original thermal and physical properties. EPS maintains a constant value in either hot or cold temperatures.

Are SIPs Certified To Be Used In The

UK?

Prime LE comprises of OSB/3 board softwood flakes/strands bonded together with MUPF (melamine urea-phenolic) resin, MDI (diisocyanate diphenylmethane) binder and waxes. The board is manufactured to the specification detailed in BS EN 300 : 1997 for OSB/3, load bearing oriented strand boards for use in humid conditions. All OSB/3 used by Prime LE SIP is from sustainable timber sources.

Are SIPs A New Housing Product?

The generic SIP structure is not new, it has been utilised since the 1950s throughout the USA. The product has been entering the UK over the past 10 years, although adoption is slow due to the traditional approach still heavily used throughout the UK. SIPs are starting to get recognition as a superior building system and have full certification by the UK government and housing building regulations. SIPs have mainly been used for eco- housing due to its properties and they achieve the highest sustainability and insulation rating levels. The large element SIP structure is a new product but it far superior to the conventional smaller SIP structure

Why Are SIP Homes More Energy

Efficient Than Traditional Housing?

Its energy efficiency properties comes from the materials utilised within the product. The wood based OSB creates a harmonised structure with the EPS insulation creating a fully filled cavity and sealed envelope. This ensures that heat is able to transfer and be created throughout the exterior walls, whilst ensuring the heat generated inside the property is not lost. The energy efficiency is so high in a SIP structure that energy heating costs are kept very low.

What Else Is Needed To Finish My

Home After Building The Frame With

SIPs?

The Prime LE frame encompasses the framing structure. This if for the external walling and roof, on top of this framing structure like any other build method requires an additional skin of block/brick. The skin and additional finishing components are not included in the framing price, although the company can provide a quote to provide the whole service on a bespoke basis.

How Much Does Building A Home

With SIPs Cost?

This depends on the housing style, sector and of course size. The common misconception is that it is more expensive than traditional but is worth using as it offers far more benefits and reduced time frame. This is not true with our system we are able to provide a very low cost of supply and erection due the process being in-house (product production, supply and erection).

Do SIPs Cover UK Building Regulations?

Yes, the product covers all UK building regulations and codes of conduct. The product even covers new legislation for energy efficiency and air tightness that has to be covered by any new builds (Part L).
